TREBLE FOR HANNON FARRIERS

Congratulations to Richard Hannon’s six-strong farrier team who have won the Victory Magnum for the third year in a row.

The Victory Magnum is awarded by Atlantic Equine Ltd to the farrier or team of farriers plating the most Group 1 winners in the UK, France and Ireland in Victory racing plates over the season.

The farriers who won the bubbly were Mark Hewlett, Richard Alford, Bert Newman , Andy Ford and, new to the team for 2012, Daley Johnson and Jason Macbeth. Between them they shoe well over 200 racehorses based at the trainer’s Herridge and East Everleigh yards near Marlborough, Wiltshire.

Richard Hannon’s multiple victories powered son-in-law Richard Hughes to the 2012 Champion Jockey title with globetrotting successes for Olympic Glory (Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere - Grand Criterium) in France and Sky Lantern (Moyglare Stud Stakes)in Ireland leading the way in the Group 1’s, closely followed by Law Enforcement (Gran Criterium) in Italy, Victrix Ludorum in the Tattersalls Millions for two year old Fillies and Rougemont in the Tattersalls Millions three year old Trophy.

“We’re getting used to this champagne,” said Mark Hewlett, “ and we’re not giving away our title lightly. We’ve had a strong team of two-year-olds this year and we’re going into the 2013 campaign with every intention of a fourth win!”

The magnums, each individually printed with the farrier’s name and two sets of the winning racing colours, were presented by Tony Lindsell, a director of Atlantic Equine Ltd, U.K. distributors for the Victory Racing Plate Company, on 13 December.

“This must be one of the longest-serving teams of racing farriers in the country,” said Tony Lindsell, “and they are now reaping the rewards of all that hard work and experience. If they keep on winning and increasing the size of their team at the same time, we are going to have to buy a vineyard!”
